A Good Night’s Sleep LLC

You can get back to restful, restorative sleep and have more vital productive days.

Even after a mild TBI, sleep can be disrupted. Insomnia and sleep difficulties just make dealing with recovery harder. The good news: insomnia can be resolved, without drugs. And this treatment is not just sleep hygiene (good bedtime habits), which is usually not enough by itself. Some sleep medications can make cognitive problems after brain injury worse. So how about a different approach?

I use an evidence based treatment called Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia, which research shows is more effective than drugs in the long run.

Once you're sleeping better, many other brain injury symptoms are much easier to deal with.

A Listening Ear Counseling, LLC

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Certified Brain Injury Specialist (CBIS). Though I do counseling in many areas, I work with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) survivors and their loved ones to explore interpersonal relationship barriers, coping skill refinement, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder/Trauma issues.

Currently, I am an Ed.D working on research surrounding Quality of Life and the TBI Survivor. Interpersonal relationship skills can impact the survivor in personal, professional, and academic areas of life. Such impacts can affect mental health attributes. I believe each client is an individual with individual needs making the approach to treatment being what will best work with the client's needs and processing abilities.

In addition to my being a student and counselor, I also facilitate a Brain Injury Support Group in my area which provides an opportunity for the TBI community to come together and share common issues, laughter, and learning in a safe and non-judgmental environment.

Amazing Brains

Amazing Brains are Brain Performance clinics with locations in Avon, Colorado and Frisco, Colorado. We use Neurostimulation and other Neuromodulation techniques ("Brain Training") to help rewire the brain. Brain training is fun, pain-free, natural, and works well in conjunction with other interventions. Like exercise for the brain, brain training teaches you how to transform your own brainwave activity. And when brain patterns change, long-lasting emotional and behavior changes follow. We work with people who have had strokes, concussions, and other traumatic brain injuries.

Comprehensive Neuropsychological and Psychological Services

Neuropsychological assessment
Cognitive rehabilitation treatment-Individual Psychotherapy is a relatively brief type of psychotherapy based on cognitive behavioral models, and has been demonstrated as an effective treatment for anxiety disorders (e.g. panic disorder), depression, chronic pain, insomnia, as well as many other types of disorders

Cognitive Rehabilitation Therapy is based on an individual's neuropsychological evaluation test results. Detailed individualized treatment to remediate and/or compensate for cognitive deficits seen in testing is provided to patients in an outpatient setting. The treatment is most effective when begun shortly after injury or illness, and continues throughout the recovery period until the patient reaches their maximum functional level.

Cultivation Counseling

As a counselor/therapist I take a client focused approach to working with you. I see each person as an individual with zero judgement. It is my belief that you have all the tools within you to become your very best self. In our work we will strive to find those tools or sharpen the ones that you already have. To do this we will focus on your mental, physical, and spiritual health. I use traditional talk therapy techniques as well as more experiential work as well. That means if you don't want to sit on a couch and talk we don't have to. I understand that not everyone's process of healing is the same and it shouldn't have to be.

DenverTechCenterNeurofeedback

My work in trauma dates back to 1985. In that time of working with clients in private practice, it became clear that hands on therapeutic work and talk therapy were helpful, but limited because of the sophistication of the brain. I sought an approach that
1. would get under the defenses that are built to protect trauma
2. was non-aggressive and never meddled nor pushed an individual's process since- defense mechanisms are there for a reason and can be driven deeper
3. provided comprehensive feedback to the brain in its language about its dysfunctional behavior

We now know that our brain is fully capable of re-organizing its own structure and function; this is the science of neuro-plasticity and is oak solid science. So our brain is actually able to heal itself with sophisticated feedback.

Trauma prevents the brain from being flexible and adaptable. plain and simple. The approach to brain biofeedback, or also called neurofeedback, that I use is called NeurOPTIMAL and is an advanced, non-intrusive approach that a does not drive side-effects and does not ask for conscious participation of the client. Since we are working at the instinctual level, the level of the survival instinct, the brain adjusts itself to the information it is receiving about what it just did.

I also used other tools, depending on your needs. Cranio-Sacral therapy is a powerful therapeutic tool for helping the brain to adjust itself to function in a more effective and healthier way. Rolfing for those who needs structural work due to accidents and injury. And EMDR, a well known trauma psychotherapy, helps process particular traumatic events that continue to intrude on your present life and it very effective.

Hope For The Challenged Brain

A new Lakewood service, Hope For the Challenged Brain, combines state-of-the-art brain wave evaluation and training for those in our community experiencing trauma, early dementia and other age-related brain disorders, along with psychological support for their families and caregivers. We address brain dysregulations both large and small at their causative root using neurofeedback – - a non-invasive, non-drug, no side-effect, gentle yet effective training process for the brain. What makes our services unique is we use the only real-time digital EEG available (four times more sensitive than traditional clinical EEGs) to detect normally hidden brain wave patterns associated with TBI and early signs of dementia . Once identified, these injuries are addressed using the same patented technology for training, allowing many of the symptoms associated with head trauma to be remediated. Symptom management and improvement is achieved using this combination of cutting edge, high tech neurofeedback and psychotherapy. We provide a no charge consultation for individuals or families to come in and see our facility and ask as many questions as they like. Additional Contact: Dr. Glenda K. Kym Allison, MA, LPC, ATR-BC: Counselor & Art Psychotherapist

I am an integrated talk and art psychotherapist. I'm a licensed professional counselor and a board certified registered art therapist. I have worked with individuals with brain injury for 9 years. I work with individuals, families and groups. Presently I work with the Glenwood Springs support group on a volunteer basis.

Therapist directed art activities work to provide client relief from depression, anxiety, anger and confusion. This form of therapy facilitates the development of a healthy, whole and loving sense of self. Art therapy works well with the brain injury population in the following ways:
1) Allows the individual express feelings and thoughts he/she does not know how to put into words or is physically unable.
2) Can facilitate the improvement of cognitive function, memory and kinetic skills.
3) Provides a safe way to communicate feelings, thoughts and experiences the individual deems too frightening or taboo to verbalize.
4) Allows the individual to safely discover repressed or new emotions they were not aware they had.

Psychotherapy Services-Regardless of what is bringing you to therapy at this time, I believe transformation and relief are possible. As a society, I believe we've lost touch with ourselves, our dreams, and with other human beings. Therapy provides an opportunity to reconnect deeply with ourselves and others, and to heal our wounds. I am an intuitive, body-centered psychotherapist, and I'm dedicated to my own growth. The foundation of my work is in mindfulness - cultivating the ability to observe our habitual behaviors, thought patterns, and emotional reactions without getting lost in them - decreasing fear, and developing compassion and understanding for who we are and why we do what we do.

TBI Health and Recovery Consultant

Early in recovery from a traumatic brain injury, emphasis is often placed on the physical and cognitive rehabilitation of the patient. As the survivor tries to move forward in life it is common for several emotional difficulties to develop. With few resources and/or knowledge on how to cope, many are left to fend for themselves. My goal is to fill this gap in treatment by focusing on the long-term emotional health of the individual. It is common for survivors to report difficulty with chronic stress, depression and anxiety. A survivor cannot reach their full potential, and live a happy and productive life if struggling with these kinds of emotional disturbances.

I carry a Masters in Science with a specialization in Health Psychology. My focus is on stress and coping, with importance given to stress reduction techniques and adaptive coping. In many cases, in order to reduce the uncomfortable feeling of stress, survivors engage in maladaptive coping that will only advance negative emotional states. My goal is to provide clients with healthy stress management approaches that can be utilized in a variety of situations while simultaneously decreasing maladaptive behaviors. My approach has shown that targeting and treating stress factors following TBI may aid in overall health outcome, both physically and emotionally. Some techniques that can counter stress are mindfulness, physical activity, journaling, meditation, cognitive reappraisal/reframing, nutritional approaches, abdominal breathing, visualization, social support and coping with grief and the loss of self.

By examining personal goals and struggles of the client, I can provide counseling and consultation services that may aid in the emotional recovery of the individual and family. My approach is to keep counseling brief and solution focused.
