Brain Injury Alliance of Colorado

Self Advocacy for Independent Life (SAIL) – Northern Region

The Self Advocacy for Independent Life (SAIL) program aims to empower  individuals with the beliefs, knowledge, and skills to advocate for their needs and  wishes after BI. SAIL was developed for both individuals living with brain  injury (BI) who advocate for themselves, and family members who  advocate for/with them.

SAIL is an evidence-based intervention. A randomized controlled study investigated a multiple session small group intervention for individuals living  with BI and found SAIL to be efficacious for improving self-efficacy and  satisfaction with life. (Hawley, et. al, 2021) This study found that sustaining  these gains requires ongoing support and encouragement.

Participants will be sent a workbook to follow along with.
