TBI Health and Recovery Consultant

Early in recovery from a traumatic brain injury, emphasis is often placed on the physical and cognitive rehabilitation of the patient. As the survivor tries to move forward in life it is common for several emotional difficulties to develop. With few resources and/or knowledge on how to cope, many are left to fend for themselves. My goal is to fill this gap in treatment by focusing on the long-term emotional health of the individual. It is common for survivors to report difficulty with chronic stress, depression and anxiety. A survivor cannot reach their full potential, and live a happy and productive life if struggling with these kinds of emotional disturbances.

I carry a Masters in Science with a specialization in Health Psychology. My focus is on stress and coping, with importance given to stress reduction techniques and adaptive coping. In many cases, in order to reduce the uncomfortable feeling of stress, survivors engage in maladaptive coping that will only advance negative emotional states. My goal is to provide clients with healthy stress management approaches that can be utilized in a variety of situations while simultaneously decreasing maladaptive behaviors. My approach has shown that targeting and treating stress factors following TBI may aid in overall health outcome, both physically and emotionally. Some techniques that can counter stress are mindfulness, physical activity, journaling, meditation, cognitive reappraisal/reframing, nutritional approaches, abdominal breathing, visualization, social support and coping with grief and the loss of self.

By examining personal goals and struggles of the client, I can provide counseling and consultation services that may aid in the emotional recovery of the individual and family. My approach is to keep counseling brief and solution focused.

TBI Therapy

TBI Therapy provides regenerative therapy for patients suffering from traumatic brain injuries. Patients are treated with a program that includes hyperbaric oxygen, intranasal platelet rich plasma (PRP), intranasal adult stem cells, cranial osteopathy, neuropsychiatric evaluations, IV nutrition, MCT oil, and nutritional counseling. The Brain and Behavior Clinic

Nearly 12 million Americans have vision loss preventing them from seeing properly. Although there are many visual problems that arise from brain injury and stroke, three are more devastating and impairing than the rest. These are visual field loss, intractable double vision, and visual/balance disorders. Although the loss of vision is a very significant problem, there is often help available at one of Dr. Politzer's Clinics. I am a physical therapist with over 45 years of experience with children and adults who has been specializing in craniosacral therapy since 2001. This is a gentle hands-on therapy that helps to regulate the client's nervous system, being very beneficial to those who have had a brain injury.
As the therapist, I am able to feel the movement of the bones of the cranium (skull), vertebrae and sacrum (tail bone) as well as the fluid that moves around the brain and up and down the spinal cord, as well as feel the movement of the membranes surrounding and attaching to the brain. With gentle touch and with nudging the client's own innate self-healing ability, these structures and fluid movement can be brought into balance. This change can relieve symptoms such as headaches, jaw, neck and back pain and sometimes dizziness. Clients often report a deep sense of relaxation that can help to reduce feelings of anxiety and post traumatic stress disorder.
My practice is in Longmont at the Holistic/Wellness Center, 16 Mountain View, Suite 102, Longmont, CO 80503. My hours are flexible. I can accomodate clients who need to schedule week-end or evening appointments.
