Seed to Sprout: Youth Gardening is a hands-on, youth-centered gardening class designed for participants ages 11–21. Led by Maria Martinez of Pueblo Brain Injury, this class invites young people to connect with nature while learning the basics of gardening in a supportive, encouraging environment.
Gardening is a powerful tool for brain injury recovery, supporting cognitive skills such as attention, memory, and problem-solving while also promoting physical movement, emotional regulation, and stress reduction. The sensory experience of working with soil, plants, and fresh air can be both calming and empowering, helping participants build confidence as they watch their efforts grow over time.
Beyond individual benefits, Seed to Sprout emphasizes connection and community. Working together in the garden encourages teamwork, communication, and peer support, creating a shared sense of accomplishment and belonging. This class offers a meaningful space for youth to grow—both in the garden and alongside one another.
