Fitness to Drive Program

Driving is an essential skill for independence in today's society. Returning to drive following injury or problems resulting from disease or surgery, often requires the specialized assistance from Certified driving rehabilitation professionals who are trained to evaluate and rehabilitate these particular needs.

We offer Occupational Therapy evaluation of pre-driving skills which includes strength, sensation, range of motion, coordination, muscle tone, proprioceptive and kinesthetic movements, visual perceptual skills, vision screening, reaction time and reflexes. We help individuals who may need adaptive equipment (hand controls, left accelerator, steering devices, mirrors, secondary controls).

The full evaluations take approximately 3 hours and can be done in individualized segments if needed. This information is compiled and used to develop a written plan, which may include recommendations for:
- Driver training
- Rehabilitation
- Driving with restrictions
- No return to driving

Information and recommendations will be provided to the referring physician for final decision making about driving.
