Begin Again Ranch

Helping brain injury survivors and their familes rebuild confidence and tackle new challenges. Begin Again Ranch and the horses are ready to help you navigate the TBI recovery process. I offer individual and family coaching sessions for TBI survivors and their caregivers utilizing my horses. I am a TBI survivor myself and working with horses is a wonderful alternative to help you get your life back on track. This is a coaching session - not riding or training.

Big View Ranch Equine Therapy

Our gentle and calm horses give people with all kinds of disabilities the opportunity to experience a new type of therapy. The multidimensional movement of the horse helps a rider's muscle tone, flexibility, balance and provides countless other benefits, including independence. Riders participate in many different activities to help them achieve goals set before they start riding, and they continue to set new goals as they progress. Big View Ranch Equine Therapy offers individual and group therapeutic riding instruction. All classes are taught by a North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) certified instructor.

Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center (CTRC)

The Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center (CTRC), a nonprofit located in Longmont, Colorado, was founded in 1980 and is the oldest and one of the largest therapeutic riding centers in Colorado, and one of the oldest and largest in the country. We are a Premier Accredited Center under PATH International. Our mission is to promote the physical, psychological and social well being of people with special needs through the interaction of a therapeutic team consisting of a horse, instructor and volunteers.

Currently CTRC serves participants through three program areas: Therapeutic Riding, Hippotherapy and the Mini Troopers. Weekly, we serve between 100-150 children and adults with a wide range of physical, cognitive and developmental disabilities. Including many children and adults with brain injuries. Each week CTRC utilizes the services of an average of 250 trained volunteers and 20 well trained horses.

Therapeutic Riding is the core of our programs at CTRC. Certified instructors, with trained volunteers, assist riders to learn riding and horsemanship skills while working on therapeutic goals. As participants in Therapeutic Riding, riders gain a sense of freedom and independence, experience accomplishments, interact socially, and learn new skills in a pleasurable environment.

Hippotherapy comes from the Greek word "hippos" meaning horse and translated means "treatment with the horse”. Clients in hippotherapy work one on one with a licensed, credentialed therapist utilizing the movement of the horse to achieve functional outcomes.

Mini Troopers utilizes a miniature horse and handler partnership to facilitate the well-being of populations with special needs who are unable to come to CTRC due to a myriad of reasons. The goal of “Mini Troopers” is to bring the animal assisted activities (AAA) to the individual(s).

Even though CTRC does not file Medicaid we do accept Medicaid if an outside source is filing. We also try and keep our cost for Therapeutic Riding and Hippotherapy as low as possible.

Heartstrings & Hoofbeats

"Heartstrings & Hoofbeats" is a PATH Int'l (Professional Assoc of Therapeutic Horsemanship) Center in the DTC area. The movement of a horse perfectly mirrors the walk of a human. Research is currently being conducted to see if as a result of this patterning, synaptic connections may be reinforced. Excercises to cross the proprioceptive system are incorporated. Sequential processes (1,2,3 steps) are reinforced as needed. Equine facilitated mental health activities/stress and anxiety-reduction are popular. Our horses are the co-therapists. They are nonjudgemental, accepting and listen well. We do our best to match clients to the appropriate horse. Each horse has a different "gait" or movement. In addition, each horse reacts differently to TBI clients. Some are much better with the angered and frustrated client; some horses are better with the withdrawn or silent client. At our Center, we have 2 registered PATH certified instructorsd (formerly NARHA) .
